Momentum, Momentum, Momentum…

London’s burning, the World economy is in the toilet bowl stinking up the bathroom and waiting to be flushed, the Arab Spring is turning to Winter, the Euro is on it’s last legs, and we haven’t put a post up in five days between us!

What the fuck is occuring, Kitty Counters???

Figuratively, Rome is burning and that thing in our collective hands is a Lyre.

I was wondering that myself. One of the best sites in the blogosphere - the one that sends me off to Google more than any other - is silent. I think you’ve all followed NickM to watch attack ships on fire off the . . .

    Precisely, RAB

CCiZ has become even more moribund lately than Samizdata. And that’s really saying something! :-)

I’m sitting here watching Diane fucking Abbot talking sense. That’s how bad it’s got.

Well, sense of a sort. Yes, these maniacs are only hurting their own communities, but the police are supposed to be part of the community, Diane. They’re supposed to be us, and nobody feels like they are any more. They strut around, equipment dangling from their belts, talking about “civilians” as if they weren’t themselves, affecting a superior, suspicious, attitude over the people they’re supposed to serve. Governments of all colours have colluded over many years to turn Peel’s force of uniformed civilians into a paramilitary arm of the bureaucracy, and nowhere more so than in Metropolitan London. And now they’re not even there when they’re needed. They’re a sick joke, and the riotous hordes are laughing fit to burst.

And make no mistake: this is a failure of policing. It’s not political. It’s not The Revolution. The bastards are looting Curry’s and Carphone Warehouse, and burning stuff for fun because they can. If there is a political angle, it’s the failure of the welfare state, and I mean welfare in its widest sense: criminals are running wild, and the Sevices of the state are failing - if reports are to be belived, refusing - to come to the aid of the law-abiding.

Oh, the inactivity? When something like this happens, I generally assume everyone else knows something I don’t.

Actually, not just when something like this happens, now I come to think of it. Anyway, cheers RAB, for breaking the awkward silence.

And while we’re at it, does anyone remember the Tottenham Outrage of 1909?

  7. Ian B says:

Not the same without Lynne, is it?

Being stuck in Maine on vacation kinda takes me out of the loop, but look after yourself RAB - I understand your parish is getting some action of its own.

I looked on with acute interest at my old parish of Croydon, what with burning, a shooting and the cops advising people to evacuate their homes.

The way I look at it is this - even if it’s not a conscious decision of these mobs, there’s a kind of gut-awareness that supplies of all the stuff that they usually sell out of the backs of vans outside pubs, will dry up. The hosts are finally succumbing to the predations of the parasites - from Brussels down to Brixton, the jig is up.

  9. RAB says:

Yes Bod we are getting some action, the Plod Chopper is still rattling my windows and it’s exactly 4am. Hopefully they are intent on plundering the Cabot Circus stores ( all major retailers, plus Apple store etc) in the centre.

Can’t help feeling that the “Tesco” Riots in Stokes Croft a month or so ago, gave Everyscum the idea. The Police are weak and disorganised. They are a pushover and can be outflanked easily. The rioter/looters have Blackberry’s, the Police walkie talkies. The rioters can disperse and regroup at will, the police have forms to fill! In Triplicate!!

But don’t worry about me and mine Bod. I live on a hill about five minutes walk from the “action” I have a field of fire that is almost 360 degrees, if only I could find something to fire. I know, I’ll buy the guns off the rioters, I already know a lot of them, they will leave me alone I’m sure :-)

NickM has actually been on holiday.

    He is now back.
