Obama’s Other First.

Everyone knows Barack Obama is the first black president of the USA*. But what is his other first as president?

Hint: It really doesn’t matter to his presidency. Just a curious thing.

*Well, actually mixed race but whatever.

  1. Eddie Willers says:

The only president to be born in Hawaii?

  2. NickM says:

True Eddie but that’s too significant and not quite unique enough in that there are other states that haven’t produced presidents.

  3. RAB says:

The only Golfer? Nope, Fuckwit? nope, Wanker? nope… How about Marxist?

  4. CountingCats says:

Well, Roosevelt was a Fabian, so he isn’t the first socialist.

  5. RAB says:

Oh I’ve got it, and this is irrefutable… married to a black woman. Don’t start on George Washington and his female slaves, he didn’t marry any of them.

  6. Andrew says:

Is he the first President to not know which President he is? In his inauguration speech he said “44 Americans have now taken the Presidential oath” inferring he was that 44th American, but he’s actually the 43rd. Grover Cleveland was President twice (two separate terms) so Obama is the 44th President but only the 43rd PERSON to be President.

  7. Andrew says:

Actually, forget that suggestion! Dubya had no idea which President he was either…and that state of mind lasted 8 years not just Inauguration Day

  8. Bod says:

    I’ll refute away … woman?

  9. GW says:

“Other first?” It should be “firsts” . . . . There is a slew of them.

    Okay, spill, what is it?

Does it involve allegations around Rahm Emmanuel per chance?

  11. Paul Marks says:

    GW has it right.

    As for Barack’s financial corruption.

“The Case Against Barack Obama” and (by M.M.) “The Culture of Corruption” have been updated.

    There is “Gangster Government” now.

As for his socialist “past” – there are so many books it is hard to know which to pick.

My personal favourate is “Deconstructing Obama” by Jack Cashill.

But “Radical In Chief” has many admirers.

As does “The Manchurian President” and “Red Army”.

Perhaps “The Obama Timeline” has more day by day stuff – but the book is spoiled (for me) by covering the Birther charges (it does not endorse birthism – but just mentioning it is enough to spoil the book for me).

    Almost needless to say…..

You will not find the above books in most British bookshops and libraries (even though you wil find plenty of pro Obama books in such places).

On in places in the United States – where the left have gained the stranglehold they have in Britain.

  12. NickM says:

    GW,
All true but looking that up felt like cheating ;-)

Actually what I was thinking of is utterly whimsical.

First to have a name ending in a vowel.

  13. Henry Crun says:

Obama isn’t the first financially corrupt President at all. The entire presidential race is won by the bloke with the most money, despite where the money comes from.

And don’t forget the Clintons’ alleged role in the Whitewater scandal. Not that either of them have any recollection about that institution whatsoever.

  14. Single Acts of Tyranny says:

“First to have a name ending in a vowel.”

    Er, James Monroe?

  15. Single Acts of Tyranny says:

And having just checked wikipedia, you didn’t really think that one through!

  16. Philip Scott Thomas says:

    Er, James Monroe?

    Millard Fillmore?
    Franklin Pierce?

  17. NickM says:

Feck! Never trust anything you read on the web.

  18. Sam Duncan says:

He is the first to have a surname with more vowels than consonants.

  19. Kevin B says:

Nick, you must have read that the other day when Wiki was down. People were publishing all manner of crap knowing it couldn’t be checked for veracity.

Indeed, people were saying that President Obama had turned down that Canadian pipline deal when we all know he promised to make the US self sufficient in energy before he got elected.

  20. NickM says:

    Sam,
I’m not even going to go there ;-)

    Kevin,
I can’t recall where I got it from. I kinda thought it wasn’t the sort of thing people would make up because it’s hardly a political score. I actually feel almost sorry for the Big O because I watched the BBC stuff when he got elected. They pigeon-holed every black person they could find in DC (not difficult – it’s a very black city) and they were all, “I never thought I’d see the day…” For quite some time (2 years!) I thought he’d been oversold but that was just risible when you consider many Republicans had wanted Colin or Condi to run. Condi – black and a woman! I was in Florida in autumn 2006 and Oprah was virtually giving Obama a televisual blow-job then. It was verging on Messianic. God knows what Americans had to endure on that score for the next two years. I first visited the USA in 1996 and seriously don’t think it is anywhere near as racist as various folks (the US media and the UK media) would like to think it is.

  21. Philip Scott Thomas says:

They pigeon-holed every black person they could find in DC

    I think you mean “button-holed”.

Some days it really isn’t worth getting out of bed. :-)

  22. GW says:

Nick – heh. That is one first I didn’t think of.

As to race and racism in America, that is a complex issue. Without going into great detail – and I’ve done tomes on this – you will find nominal racism limited to the far fringes on the right. You will find that the American left views virtually everything through a racial lens, finding racism inherent in the recitation of any objective facts they do not want to hear, or in any criticism of a black leftie. This same group supports the most vile reverse racism imaginable and is utterly vicious – on racial grounds – in attacking any black who strays from the Democratic fold.

Unlike the UK, America had a history of slavery until only 150 years ago. Actually, the Democrats in America were the slavers, and after the Civil War, the creators of the KKK and the Jim Crow laws. They made sure that even after the Civil War, blacks were truly second class citizens until the civil rights revolution of the 60′s. Then the Marxist far left led a u-turn and adopted blacks – and indeed, all victim groups – as their raison d’etre.

And once they did that, they found that they could use the race card. This from a post I did on MLK day:

    ……………………..

The far left fundamentally altered the nature of the Civil Rights movement when they claimed it as their own. They imprinted the movement with identity politics, grossly distorting the movement’s goal of a level playing field for all Americans and creating in its stead a Marxist world of permanent victimized classes entitled to special treatment. The far left has been the driver of reverse racism and sexism for the past half century. That is why it is no surprise that, with the emergence of a far left candidate for the highest office in the nation, Rev. Jeremiah Wright should also arise at his side and into the public eye preaching a vile racism and separatism most Americans thought long dead in this country. Nor is it any surprise that the MSM, many of whom are of the far left, should collectively yawn at Obama’s twenty year association with Wright. Wright is anything but an anomaly. To the contrary, he is a progeny of the politics of the far left.

The far left did not merely hijack the civil rights movement, they also wrote over a century of American history, turning it on its head. That is why Bob Herbert, quoted above, is able to wax so eloquently while spouting the most horrendous of deceits. The far left managed to paint the conservative movement and the Republican Party as the prime repositories of racism and sexism. The far left has long held themselves out as the true party of equality. They have done so falsely as, by its very nature, identity politics cements inequality. Beyond that truism, the far left has for decades played the race and gender cards to counter any criticism of their policies, to forestall any reasoned debate and to demonize those who stand opposed to them. They continue to do so through this very day.

For example, Obama has attempted repeatedly to play the race card so as to delegitimize criticism of his policies. And today we have the Governor of New York calling the McCain camp racist for belittling the executive experience one could expect to be gleaned from the position of “community organizer.” Apparently, according to Gov. David Patterson, “repeated use of the words ‘community organizer’ is Republican code for ‘black’.” What Gov. Patterson is doing is the well worn trick of taking any criticism of something pertaining to one of the victim class and recasting it as an illegitimate attack on the victim class itself. These tactics, which the left has used with incredible effectiveness in the past, have done incalculable harm to our nation over the decades.
    ………………………………………

At any rate, the left has been able to politically dominate the last half century through racial politics and preying on white guilt. All signs now are pointing to that era is coming to a quick end in the U.S. The view that racism is a major problem in the U.S. of the last two decades is purely a creation of the left wing media.

    GW,
There is a lot of good stuff there and I’ll be back but it needs a bit of chewing over.
