Sign of the times

Sure, I find someone sporting NAZI symbols repugnant, but I’m not overly enthusiastic for the sight of the Hammer and Sickle or the Rising Sun either, but do I think that banning them is the right approach? Hell, banning stuff is what these symbols, well, symbolise – amongst other stuff.

Banning the expression of an unpopular opinion is never an acceptable response, and my dad put his life on the line for precisely that principle.

A COUNCIL will consider banning Nazi flags after a Melbourne man flew swastika and SS flags outside his home.

The solution to unpleasant speech is always more speech, not less. These people, all of them, are just plain wrong.

Update:  JuliaM isn’t too wild about the omnipresent visage of a psychopathic mass murderer either. Can’t say I disagree.

Yep, I quite agree, vile indeed. Some clown who must live near me, insists on driving around a Mazda sports car with the hammer and sickle flying from the radio antenna.

I think this shows he is an idiot, (as well as someone who drives a woman’s car) but I’m not asking for a ban.

For me, anyone sporting a “nuclear power, no thanks” sticker is at best, utterly clueless and if they understand the implications (i.e. power outages, economic calamity and the old freezing to death in the dark etc) quite evil, but again, no bans please.

Or Che’s face on so many t-shirts…

    Rob Boot - aka Jack?

The theory goes that there’s no such thing as bad publicity, right? So he hoists up the most controversial flags he produces and, like magic, the offended parties and local media dutifully oblige.

    A strategy that never fails…
