I’m in a bit of schtuck. I need…

A CD of Windows XP (both of mine are scratched beyond recovery) and I would like Office 2000/2003/2007. Obviously with keys. Much love will exude from me to anyone able to provide either.

Now, I know this is strictly speaking illegal but I simply haven’t been able to buy these items legally. I am strictly legal otherwise. Vista, Win 7, Linux etc.

  1. Tim Newman says:

How much of a hurry are you in? I can probably get these from Thailand, might even have them knocking about in my apartment, but won’t be there until August.

  2. Scott says:

Will have at look at home this aft: fairly certain I have both of those..

  3. NickM says:

Cheers Tim but if I make so bold August is a bit of a hike*. Cheers Scott! Needed quick-sharp so an assistance will receive my undying. Seriously.

    My real addy is

    Nick McHugh,
    8 Ring O’Bells Lane.
    SK12 2 AG.

*My wife is going spare. Her computer is, to use a technical term, fucked up the software. The hardware is fine. I know (I built it and it sounds fine). It just won’t boot. It’s an old install and she yanked the plug one too many times. “It was trying to shut-down and I wanted to sleep so I turned it off at the wall”. Nick’s head does hguhvuehfvoshvohoch on keyboard. Magic! It needs a re-install that keeps her stuff. Ultimately it needs a clean re-install. Ultimately, ultimately it needs a new machine. Probs an i5 or i7 of the form that will set the fucking carpet on fire. I can create magic out of electrons.

  4. Mine is hardly ever turned off at all. Have a set of Office 2000 CDs no longer in use because I’ve switched to Open Office, so these might even be legal! Can’t help with XP.

  5. Fred Thrung says:

If you still need them tomorrow morning I can put them in the mail. Having said that I’m wondering whether I can email the ISO copies to you – that would be too easy so I bet not. I have XP + office 2003.

  6. NickM says:

Mail is better becuse I think the isos would cause 1&1 Webmail to fall over.

    Ian, that would be grand!

    Any help greatly appreciated.

  7. ivan says:

Nick, if it is only windows that has failed do what we do when someone brings in a computer with problems. Take out the hard disk and put it in a USB adapter, plug it into a working computer and scrape off all the personal data and store it. That way you are covered if you have to format the disk or windows does it usual messing about when you try recovery.

  8. NickM says:

I was going to do something similar. I have a couple of spare HDs kicking around.

  9. scott says:

OK that was a bust, been thro’ 4 boxes of discs and accumulated IT detritus and I can’t find the damn things anywhere; suspect have loaned out previously and not got back…will haul the usual suspects in for questioning…

  10. Fred Thrung says:

Disks mailed today. Two points: (1) I’m concerned about the registration codes since Mrs T is still using XP (mentioned in my covering letter) (2) The Office disk is an upgrade version so you will need a previous version – I’ve included it in the box.
