Far be it from me, the loving warm caring human being that I am, and you all know and love, to indulge in a bit of Schadenfreude but…
To think that Les Dawson cartoon of a Politician almost became Humberside’s new Chief of Police. The last thing the lard arsed chip on both shoulders fucker got right was an order for drinks on a Cunard Liner back in 1957.
And a caption to go with it?
“And I bet that’s our last Rolo you’re scoffin there i’nt it Mortica?

Is it just me or does dear Pauline look like she is chained to a Jawa gimp?
The weirdist thing about these elections is not the coverage of “Humberside” (i.e. East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire - Edward Heath was a total idiot), but the coverage of Corby in Northamptonshire.
I have lived within a few miles of this place all my life - it is town dominated by people who came down from Scotland (mostly from Glasgow) to work in the steel industry and did not leave when the steel plant closed.
It is normally a safe Labour seat that has been lost by Labour only twice since World War II - in 1983 and 2010 (when basically everyone in the villages got together to try and defeat the Labour town).
Yet the Corby BBC the reporting from is a totally differnent place.
It is a constituency which “always votes for the winner of the general election - who wins Corby wins the election” (and on and on - lies repeatedly endlessly on radio and television). Labour Scottish Corby is transformed into “Middle England” and a “swing seat” or “bellweather” seat that always votes for the winner of the general elections…..
I repeat this is not just bias - it is factually wrong, basically reporting from a different universe.
Surly no one could not deny that the BBC tax should be abolished.
of course “not deny” should be “now deny” - big clumsy fingers at work.
“I repeat this is not just bias - it is factually wrong, basically reporting from a different universe”
Well it is the BBC so hardly a surprise. I also infer from its broadcast coverage (and style of interview and analysis) of the police commissioners’ elections that the BBC position is that the low turn-out more or less undermines their legitimacy: a theme which was a staple of the BBC’s pre-election coverage.
At the same time, the BBC website report discloses that in Manchester Central “the turnout of just over 18% is believed to be the lowest in a by-election since World War II”. AFAIAA the BBC fails to consider (or ask the question of interviewees) whether the low turn-out there similarly undermines the legitimacy of that election. Mind you, since (hallelujah!) a Labour woman won in Manchester it’s not exactly a shock that, for the BBC, the question of legitimacy doesn’t arise.
Paul, the facts are here. Since 1983 it has gone with the General Election result.

The town is dirt poor, it has the air of a typical decrepit Northern English town.
Boundary changes dear boy, boundary changes. Corby has historically been Labour forever, it was only the boundary change that made it marginal, and it matters not one jot as to what will happen at the next General Election, sure fire indicator it aint, especially for a by Election, which almost always favours the Opposition party in mid term.
Same thing happened here in Bristol. Tony Benn had his feet firmly under the table in Bristol South, then a boundary change abolished it. He stood for Bristol East and lost, and had to drag his sorry arse off to the next vacant Labour certainty seat that became available.
In my own Ward of Bristol West, which had been Tory for something like 120 years, and was one of the Tories safest in the country, a boundary change let in folks from the cheaper seats and it went Labour with the Blair landslide of 1997. Come the next election though, with New Labour still riding high, it went Lib/Dem, and so it remains. It is a very very marginal seat now, except that the Tories are unlikely to win it again in the near future.
If the petulant Boy Clegg really believes in Democracy, he will get out of the way of equalising constituancy boundaries, because as currently constituted they massively favour Labour for the same amount of actual votes. But he doesn’t does he?
The reason I voted at all, even though I was against both new posts, was that if there is going to be an election then some fucker or other is going to be elected no matter how small the turnout, so I might as well have my two penneth worth.
And the heartening thing about the results, both wins for Independent candidates, is that the Electorate seem to be finally waking up to the fact that the three main parties are basically the same fuckin party but wearing different coloured rosettes, and rejected them.
The Beeb are just being lousy journalists again (and this is really beginning to be noticed) The Corby holds the key to the next election line is bullshit, and the electorate can smell it. UKIP came third and the Lib/Dems lost their fuckin deposit. Not much on the BBC about that though eh?

Lib/Dim’s demanded two recounts to try and get their deposit back, but couldn’t manage it.
‘kin great stuff.
Giving Cleggy a poke in the eye with a shitty stick is always good value for money.
I groan every time I see Porky Prescott’s face when I remember New Labour sending him abroad to represent the UK.
I did not turn out to vote,as I wanted a low turnout to undermine the validity of these elections. Supervision of our police forces should not be party political at all.
Police themselves prefer to be viewed as servants of the crown.
Police supervision should also not be by a individual, they will come under immense pressure when contracts are to be awarded, the chances of cronyism & fraud are just too great. What was wrong with the old Police Authorities?
A lifelong Tory, I’ve spoiled my papers in the last few elections: “No votes for lying, thieving incompetents”.
I’m considering UKIP.
Off topic but great.
Lord Monckton says on film: Al Gore knows he’s telling lies.
No man predicts 12ft sea rises, & believes in it, & in the same year buys himself a seaside condo. Let him sue me.

The video’s been pulled johnpd, pity, I love to see Monckton at full tilt.
“I did not turn out to vote,as I wanted a low turnout to undermine the validity of these elections.”
But the result is the same, they are self validating no matter how low the turnout. Our Pols wring their hands over validation, but then just carry on regardless. Look at the voting system for PCC’s and Mayors. We had a Referendum over voting methods when they wanted to introduce AV. We told them to fuck off, but what do we get? AV for these elections, like it or not. Their arrogance is breathtaking. “Well it’s only local elections, they don’t matter…”
As to the Police, they have been politicised for a long time now. It started with the creation of the Crown Prosecution Service, stuffed full of fourth rate leftie Lawyers with an agenda. It continued through the Blair years with the likes of Sir Ian Blair and the rest of the Police’s senior management being left of centre social engineers rather than thief takers. PCC’s will probably not make the situation better, but they can hardly make it worse can they?
An election is a choice between tapeworms.

Or so says one of his “Team”. He has a team?? It took more than just him to make him look like a complete buffoon? Politics eh??
RAB,

Ta Cats. Lovely stuff there by the Monckfish! Er but thereby hangs a problem. I never advocate cosmetic surgery for anyone, but he really should think about doing something about his eyes and the bags under them, cos he unfortunately looks like an air breathing Carp. Image matters to the simple minded you know.
RAB,
Monckton suffers from a medical condition called Graves disease which makes his eyes bulge.
Whoops!
Foot, can I introduce you to mouth…
Yes Al Gore spending a very large sum of money on a large house next to the sea is hard to explain - if he really believes (as he repeately says) that sea levels are going to rise.
Corby always goes with the winner of the election that was the BBC claim - not “since 1983″. The date “1983″ was not mentioned by any BBC person I listened to.
And there was the elections of 1987 and 1992 - I do not remember the Conservatives winning Corby in 1987 and 1992 perhaps the Conseverative candidate did win. But what about 1951 or 1955 or 1959 or 1970 or 1979? The Conservatives won all these elections - I do not remember Corby (even whan it was lumped in with Kettering) going blue.
