Julia Gillard, a disfunctional leader of a dysfunctional government, has had a visit today by the people of power within the Labour Party. At 13:05, fifteen minutes ago, she announced in Parliament that there is a leadership spill, and a party election will be held at 16:30 today.

Five minutes later the Leader of the Opposition moved for a vote of no confidence in the Prime Minister…….

The speeches are going on right now.

So what’s going to happen? The Labour MP’s will all troop into the lobby and vote their confidence in Ms Gillard, and then, three hours later, do what? Vote to knife her?

Isn’t politics fun? Honesty, integrity and probity – the defining characteristics.

  1. Mr Ed says:

She has done a ‘John Major’ and stood down expecting not to be stood up, (correctly).

Rudd has shown the sort of resolve not seen since Thermopylae, and with Gillard firmly in place, we can only hope that Ming the Merciless is dictating events ‘…I like to play with things a while… before annihilation…’.

  2. CountingCats says:

For the opposition, best result possible. Gillard, Rudd and the Labour Party all came out of this shafted.

  3. RAB says:

Yep, the evil bitch is still there for the moment, but there is good news… the Media Bill has bitten the dust.

  4. John Galt says:

At some point, the members of the ALP will have to decide whether it is Rudd or Gillard that they hate most.

This is the most delicious comic opera.

  5. Emigre says:

Gillard and Rudd – two of the most disgraceful, unprincipled and egotistical politicians ever. They deserve each other. Australia certainly doesn’t deserve either if them.

  6. Paul Marks says:

Not how the British media report things (when they bother to report Australian affairs at all).

According to the BBC, the Economist magazine (and so on) J. Gillard is a fine Prime Minister helping various groups of people hurt by the evil capitalists. And Mr Rudd is her loyal helper.

Are you saying the Progressive media are not telling the pure truth?

  7. Mr Ed says:

I often wonder if Gillard was fathered by Neil Kinnock.
