It’s like fighting weapons of meaningless destruction with wet celery.

Apparently John Kerry is laying down the law on Syria… It’s a bit like being threatened with a dead haddock. It’s Clintonism again. He was talking about targeted missile strikes against the Assad regime on the BBC News today. That’s like throwing stones at a quarry. We have no interest in Syria and neither does the USA but those Tomahawks are such lovely toys! And aginst what and who gains anyway? call me cynical but the Assad regime is vile and the rebels are a mixed bag of assorted fruits. God knows whose side we ought to be on and on that basis We ought to stay out. Now if it’s the case of giving neighbouring states such as Lebanon and Turkey a bit of a hand with the refugees.

I suspect I’m just Middle East fatigued. I’ve forty fucking years of it. It’s like fucking Groundhog Day tetrated. Oh, and the Russians and Chinese are involved. It’s a potential cluster-fuck of Biblical proportions.

I mean for buggering sake I heard recently I heard Syrians were fleeing to Iraqi Kurdistan to escape being gassed. Am I the only sod who sees the bitter irony in that?

  1. john in cheshire says:

NickM, I also think we should keep out of any more interference in matters that aren’t a threat to our national security. However, I do think it would be a welcome change, if we have to become involved in protecting lives, that our socalled leaders took some time to consider protecting the lives of Christians in muslim countries. I’d support that.

  2. westerlyman says:

Whats being Christian got to do with anything? There are loads of minorities living all over the middle east. Why pick out Christians as your preferred group?

  3. RAB says:

Because John is one westerlyman. There have been Christians in Egypt since the first century AD, long before Rome or Northern Europe caught up and made the rules, and long before Islam. Christianity IS a Middle Eastern religion, and it is quietly(because our media rarely reports it) being excised by the various flavours of Islam. I’m an Atheist myself, but the very same thing would happen to me if I was stupid enough to live there.

Mr Kerry said that any strike would be ‘unbelievably small’.

Yup that’s the way to do it! No worries, as the Aussies say. “What was that noise?…Probably mice dear, go back to sleep”.

Can you imagine what the world would look like if this dork had actually been elected President of the United States? Barry is bad enough, but Kerry isn’t Clinton, he’s bleedin Carter revisited.

  4. NickM says:

Your point is noted and it is terrible but so is what has happened to everyone around there. My major point is there is nothing we can do which would work. We can either stand around an watch genocide or we can chuck petrol on a fire.

John Kerry makes Jimmy Carter look like Donald Rumsfeldt.

  5. Julie near Chicago says:

I wish that people who upload to YouTube would specify the source and date of the clip. I don’t know whose news this is, but it does have English (sort of) subtitles. Anyway, poke me with a stick — feature the fat Californian dude who hates America and lives for death.

  6. Edward Lud says:

If they’re fleeing to Iraqi Kurdistan, maybe we got something right in Iraq.

  7. NickM says:

I think it is because they expect stuff like this to be time and date-stamped.

I guess that’s one way of looking at it!

  8. Kevin B says:

Oh well, that didn’t work. Try this: Unbelievably small

  9. Paul Marks says:

No Nick – the Syrian Kurds (and others) fleeing to Iraqi Kurdistan are not fleeing chemical weapons (by the way even Bill O’Reilly now accepts that the, much stressed, “communications intercepts” are NOT the Syrian government ordering the use of chemical weapons – they are the Syrian government “screaming at” local commanders for using them, oddly Bill still supports war with Syria).

The Syrian Kurds (and others) are actually fleeing conventional attacks – and not even conventional attacks from Assad.

No – the attacks they are fleeing come from their “allies” the Black Flag Islamists (also rebels fighting Assad).

    By the way…..

The people fighting for Assad (such as the Iranian puppets – the “Party of God”) are just as bad as the AQ fighting against him.

Think Lord of the Rings – with different tribes of orcs slaughtering each other.

  10. Lynne says:

If Kerry’s face was an arse (like its owner) I’d smack it.

  11. NickM says:

If you smacked that arse I’d never shake your hand :-)

Well we don’t really know what the hell is going on so… But there was grim irony and I thought it illustrated the interminable turmoil of the region. Which is of course why I don’t support war.

  12. Paul Marks says:

    Nick – yes indeed.
