Melissa Harris-Perry – All Your Kids Are Belong To Us

Melisa Harris-Perry – MSNBC Special Correspondent for Child Stealing

“We have never invested as much in public education as we should have because we’ve always had kind of a private notion of children – ‘Your kid is yours, and totally your responsibility.’ We haven’t had a very collective notion that these are our children. So part of it is we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents, or kids belong to their families, and recognize that kids belong to whole communities.

So there you go, clear and unambiguous from the “liberal” (yeah right!) heart of the collective, a contemporary restatement of the fascist principle of “Tutto nello Stato, niente al di fuori dello Stato, nulla contro lo Stato“ (“Everything in the State, nothing outside the State, nothing against the State”) as set forth by Benito Mussolini in his infamous speech to the Italian Chamber of Deputies on 9 December 1928.

Ms. Harris-Perry is now attempting to retract or somehow reinterpret her words, but her original message was clear and unambiguous, especially since it has been in the playbook of every collectivist movement for over a century as former members of the Hitler Youth, Young Pioneers and countless other youth movements will attest.

Perhaps Ms. Harris-Perry is throwing her hat in the ring to be the head of the Obama Youth?

Melissa Harris-Perry and the Firestorm Over ‘Collective’ Parenting

[Edit] - Apparently this was from a TV piece from last November, so I’m a bit of a slow poke. My only excuse is I was living on the opposite side of the planet at the time, still a bit too close though clearly.

  1. Julie near Chicago says:

JG, this sort of stuff is too evil to even joke about. How can anybody fall for this nonsense! “The children belong to the collective”??? !!!!!

“We” have decided not to allow Big Business, Small Business, and individual human persons to “pollute,” to the extent that people are bringing suit because their neighbors are “polluting” by smoking indoors! “In” their own doors!

Quote from memory, such as it is: “If we ever see a time when people honor the mind as they do the body,” guarding against toxic ingestions, she means, “we shall have a revolution of quite another sort.” At which, in the novel, her audience “looked alarmed.”

People like M. H.-P. are spewing the most vile mind-pollutants into the air. It’s enough to make a person think the unthinkable: Thought-crime! I mean, what price Free Speech!

  2. CountingCats says:

A coloured woman suggesting that people, children in this case, ‘belong’ to people?

  3. John Galt says:

Colour me surprised :-) but if you believe in any of the collectivist idiocies, then by definition you believe in slavery of those outside the elect and its subsidiary, the nomenklatura.

Perhaps she consoles herself that enslaved blacks, whites, Chinese, Hispanics et al will all share in the equality of their misery. “Arbeit macht frei” anyone?

As long as it doesn’t apply to herself and her daughters, why should she care? This is about “Do as I say” not “Do as I do” you dreadful little pleb.

Now get your children ready for the Obama Youth camp’s “Hopey Changey” Weekend, attendance is compulsory you know – as in all good totalitarian societies.

  4. Julie near Chicago says:

Well, like most so-called “blacks” or Negroes in America, she looks to me to be mostly Caucasian. However, Cats, one does see your point.

Quite, JG. It’s hard to believe that anyone who ever had a child could spout such drivel. Unless, of course, the person happened to hate the kid. Or is a really serious case of Arrested Development him- or her- self.

Happily, it would seem that young Samantha has reasonably reasonable parents. She’s a lucky kid.

  5. John Galt says:

Well, like most so-called “blacks” or Negroes in America, she looks to me to be mostly Caucasian.

This is not so surprising, given that the blacks came from various places in Africa and have been mixing with whites in the Americas and Caribbean since the time of the Spanish conquest, although much of this racial mixing was during the height of American slavery during the 18th and 19th century as a result of the rape* and prostitution of slaves by slave-owners and overseers, mostly in the cotton-fields of the Antebellum era South.

In the aftermath of the war, this led to the legislative changes which brought about Southern segregation, which included the “One-drop rule” defining those with even the the slightest interracial mixing as “Negro” in the eyes of the law, even in the post-Civil War South this was too much for some legislators:

“…It is a scientific fact that there is not one full-blooded Caucasian on the floor of this convention. Every member has in him a certain mixture of… colored blood…It would be a cruel injustice and the source of endless litigation, of scandal, horror, feud, and bloodshed to undertake to annul or forbid marriage for a remote, perhaps obsolete trace of Negro blood. The doors would be open to scandal, malice, and greed…”

In present-day America, the converse seems to be true, with even very light skinned people self-identifying as “African-American” as if they were still connected to the tribes of Africa by some invisible set of chains.

This is not to understate the historical horrors of slavery, segregation or the civil rights movement, but someone like Ms. Harris-Perry (professor of political science at Tulane University, where she is the founding director of the Anna Julia Cooper Project on Gender, Race, and Politics in the South) has only ever benefited from her self-identified African-American victim status through affirmative action and her ability to silence “whites” using the race card.

I often wonder, how far into the future this victim mentality for cash and prizes will continue? Will the darker members of the colony on Mars self-identify as African-Martian?

Legislation enforcing positive discrimination may have served its purpose in the 1960′s and 1970′s, but the pendulum has swung too far when you have university places going to students because of their victim status rather than their academic merit.

Time for some change, but not likely under the regime of the Community Organizer I suspect.

    * – What Whoopi Goldberg would describe as “Rape-Rape”

  6. GW says:

Ms. Harris-Perry is the daughter of a white mother and a black father, though she self identifies as black.

The civil rights movement was so successful in America because, at the start of the civil rights movement, white guilt was warranted. The hard left took control of the civil rights movement in the late 60′s and morphed it from a clarion call for an equal playing field to a desire for permanent victim status for blacks for which they are entitled to racial spoils. The left has built this system and protects it because their political power is dependent on keeping blacks voting Democrat at their near 90% rate. Let the black voting block be split and it would be catastrophic for the left.

We are, I think, nearing the point in time where the race card no is losing its strength. For over half a century now, the race card has been used to end all debate and to demonize one’s opponents. Indeed, being labeled a racist is one of the worst things that can happen in today’s America. But the race card has been vastly overplayed. I look forward to the day when being falsely labled a racist engenders the same militant, perhaps violent response that actual racism engenders among those subject to it.

At any rate, for the left to maintain the monolithic black voting block, they need to keep up the now utter fantasy that racism is everywhere, that all of the US in 2014 is but a reflection of 1950′s Selma, Alabama. The truth of this was captured perfectly in a recent demonstration held by one of our worst race hustlers, the Rev. Al Sharpton. The picture taken at the demonstration shows a black woman holding up a sign that says [verbatim] “Racisms Still Alive, They Just Be Concealing It.”

So, based on the above, Melissa Harris-Perry’s desire to take collective control of our children does not surprise me in the least. Her agenda is intimately entwined with the larger agenda of the left, which penultimately is government control of our lives in order to perfect society (and enrich those animals on the farm who are more equal than others). To that end, people need to believe fantasy over reality. The easiest way to achieve that is have government schools inculcate government approved ideas in the minds of children. As one rather famous leftist once said, “Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.” Ms. Harris-Perry may not know that quote, but she certainly understands its necessity if the racial spoils system is to continue.

  7. Julie near Chicago says:

Or, to quote (from memory) the late great Creator of The Great Society,

F*** the N*****s, I’ll have them voting Democratic for the next 40 years!

Also, GW, do you know off-hand if that allegedly “black” father was full-blooded Negro? If he was born anywhere in the Americas (including the Caribbean) I should think the odds are against it.

Hm. Along those lines, this assertion (by an anonymous “Emailer,” at Renew America) about our Incumbent has been floating around forever, but I hadn’t heard the second part before. It’s pure rumor, of course, published in June, 2008. Has anybody got any credible verification re Obama Sr., or the other Presidents mentioned?

There’s no question that Michelle “Black Community first and foremost” is black, but one of my emailers suggested that the headline should be “Arab-American Is Presumptive Presidential Nominee,” NOT “African-American Is Presumptive Presidential Nominee.”

“I was fascinated by the revelations regarding Obama’s heritage … that he is an Arab, not a black. Knowing that and looking at him, he does appear as a dark Arab rather than a ‘black’ … his father was 87.5% Arab, his mother was 0% black. That makes Obama at most 6.125% ‘black’ American and 43.75% ‘Arab’ American, the rest being a mixture from his Caucasian mother’s side. Hmmmm. So why isn’t Obama being heralded as the first ‘Arab-American’ candidate?”

Answer: It would not be politically helpful to Obama, of course.

This emailer also noted that Obama would not be “the first American president with some small percentage of black blood … Jefferson, Jackson, Lincoln, Coolidge, and Harding all had some black blood.”

Personally, I thought that it was interesting that in his photos during the Primary race that year he looked like a well-tanned “white,” whereas later he seemed much darker.

    JG, great quote. Thanks.

  8. John Galt says:

Personally, I thought that it was interesting that in his photos during the Primary race that year he looked like a well-tanned “white,” whereas later he seemed much darker.

He didn’t get much golf or vacation time in Hawaii during the Primaries (mostly up in the cold Northwest).

Since his election in 2008 he seems to have spent the majority of his time having fun in the sun, interspersed with occasional TV appearances. Probably why he looks darker…although…

Obama Skin Tone Darker In Clinton Ad (from 2008)

It is not the colour of his skin or the matter of his bloodline (as if he was some form of pedigree poodle) that concerns me about Obama, it is the deceit in his heart that I find repulsive.

In fact the only comment I recall regarding Obama’s roots was the one made by Louis Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam movement, who allegedly said of Obama during the 2008 US Presidential campaign “He ain’t even a house nigger”.

It seems that even amongst the elect of the African-American victims movement there are gradations.

Julie – The earlier quote was from George D. Tillman a Democratic politician from South Carolina.

  9. GW says:

Sorry, Julie, I don’t know the heritage of Ms. Harris-Perry’s father. That said, from the Harris Perry family photos, he does not appear full African.

As to Obama’s roots, whether they be Arab or black, it is interesting to note that some of the greatest slavers of all time were the Arabs of Africa and the Africans themselves. In particular, Kenya was heavily involved in the African slave trade in the 16th through 18th centuries, capturing blacks in the interior and selling them into slavery. It is not unthinkable that Obama’s ancestors sold his wife’s ancestors into slavery.

As to the gradations among African Americans, that has virtually everything to do with accepting one’s victim status and little if anything to do with skin color, where “one drop” will do. Thus the light skinned Melissa Harris-Perry is an authentic black, wholly embracing her victim status, while the near obsidian Justice Clarence Thomas is, we are told recently by one Congressman, is a race traitor, an Uncle Tom unwelcome on the Democrat’s plantation.

Behold the genesis of the Borg.

  11. NickM says:

Can we quit with this bizarre race stuff. Look can we just concentrate on say Obama’s policies on not on some demented attempt to define his race. I recall when he was first elected he reffed himself as a “mongrel”. He is mixed race as are a heck of a lot of us. Half my family are Anglo-Indian due to the antics of my Great Uncle during WWII. Well he got her in the bun-club whilst stationed in India with the RAF. He did the decent thing and married her and moved to Birmingham. Got married in Calcutta Cathedral. I have no idea how he swung that being just an aircraftsman. They had ten kids in all. I never had an issue with them being mixed race though I did with them being Brummie. I’m fairly unusual in that I lived from 0-19 in the same house so regional accents (apart from Geordie, obviously) took some work.

  12. Mr Ed says:

Mr Obama’s ‘race’ is determined by around 3,000,000,000 DNA bases G, A, T and C, and the particular order that they are in within his genome. He has no other bases to work with, and neither does anyone else. All the variety in humanity that is genetic is simply a matter of the order of those letters in a genome, and most of it is noise or padding.

Race as a biological concept is rather ‘fuzzy’, if you pardon the expression. External visible signs of ‘race’, e.g skin colour, facial features, are the obvious determinants, but some aspects of ‘race’, or genetics markers that are common to or prevalent in populations (such as alcohol dehydrogenase chain enzyme deficiency in west Asian populations) are not visible. There are populations that could be classified differently by different people, those masterminds of ethnic socialism, the National Party in South Africa, got the State to establish a Racial Classification Board manned by social workers, whose job it was to classify people into the right ‘race’, some people every year were moved between races, e.g. Cape Coloured to White, White to Cape Coloured, Malay to Cape Coloured, Black to Cape Coloured, I believe that these social workers were eventually declared redundant before the dismantling of Apartheid. Someone has written a Ph.D on this body, helpful explanation of this insanity early on.

Ought we not divide the world not by race but by political class? The predators and prey.

  13. John Galt says:

Can we quit with this bizarre race stuff. Look can we just concentrate on say Obama’s policies on not on some demented attempt to define his race. I recall when he was first elected he reffed himself as a “mongrel”.

I think that’s a fair comment, but the Democrats and especially his wife HAVE AND CONTINUE to play the race card and to use the taint of racism to silence critics, so it seems fair to me to point out that his father travelled by Boeing rather than slave boat so it’s not really on is it?

  14. NickM says:

Well, lets not play their game. About 15 years ago I was in Atlanta and I went to the civil rights museum. Very interesting. By the eternal flame outside MLK jr’s Church a black couple from Texas asked me to take a photo. They returned the favour for me and my Georgian Jewish gf. Fine. So let us not play this game. It is over. Now, if the Obamas want to play the game then let ‘em put don’t play back. They might play the race card. I shall not.

  15. Bill Sticker says:

The thought occurs that maybe the parents of the children being laid claim to don’t want to belong to such ‘communities’. Also, how can they make a charge of kidnapping or child abduction stick against these collectivists?

  16. GW says:

Nick, clicking our heels and wishing won’t make the central issue race plays in American politics and academia go away. The issue here is not race, per se, but rather the race card and the racial spoils system – and in the case of Melissa Harris Perry, understanding why she would like to take control of parenting our children. It is not possible, here in the U.S., to simply ignore race in as much as the left uses it as a defining element of their politics. As to the talk about percentage of blood a person of mixed race may have, that is not “bizarre.” To the contrary, it is central to showing just how ludicrous the racial spoils system has become. V.D. Hanson has written much on this, most recently:

  17. GW says:

Also, it is worth pointing out that the holy grail for race hustlers in academia – in particular the Ivy League African Studies professors – is to have America pay reparations to blacks for the sin of slavery. It is insanity.

  18. John Galt says:

It’s not so much race as the affirmative action that binds and empowers them, undermining genuine merit and equality. Affirmative action may (note the “may”) have been appropriate in the immediate aftermath of segregation, but it has become a divisive poison that is choking America, especially in academia.

  19. Julie near Chicago says:

GW, precisely. Also JG at 12:25. And I’m not aware of anybody here who is racist within the proper meaning of the term anyway. Nor much impressed with race either.

Thanks, GW & JG, for the links and the sources. :>)

  20. Paul Marks says:

Leftists (such as MSNBC) think of “Fascism” as something they hate – yet their opinions (their fanatical collectivism) is the same.

This should not be a surprise – as Fascism is actually a socialist heresy.

  21. Mr Ed says:

If reparations can be paid to the descendants of slaves (this nonsense is touted in the Caribbean too, with an eye to suing the UK), then:

    1: you get your compensation apportioned according to your % Slave ancestry, so you need a DNA test and a scientific estimate of your ‘African-ness’;

    2. Britons sue Italy for Roman slavery in the UK.

If you are a consistent believer in reparations, why would you disagree?

[Edit - Revised by John Galt for clarity]

  22. Mr Ed says:

    Bloomin’ iPad typos, sorry.

  23. John Galt says:

I would go further and say that fascism, naziism, Juche, Marxist-Leninism, etc., etc., are simply variations on a theme and the truth of their opposition to each other has less to do with philosophical differences and more to do with the fact that as totalitarians they are unable to share the same political space with each other.

It is often said of the Muslim Brotherhood that their platform was “One man, one vote, but only once”, but the Nazis, communists and fascists all achieved the same result by rigging elections or preventing secret ballots.

Looking back, I can’t tell the difference – they all appear as collectivist thugs to me

    @Mr Ed
Tim Worstall had a classic piece on how reparations argument fails:
    Reparations For Slavery

  24. Mr Ed says:

JG, thanks for the interesting link and the edits.

This bit of the thread is also a reminder that there is always someone willing to justify theft and those that would never rest.

  25. Julie near Chicago says:

Well, all I can say is, given the fact that I am allegedly something like 49.9999% pure British, quite likely some of my ancestors were kidnapped and sold into slavery by the Muslims.

I INSIST that I am entitled to reparations from them, because of this atrocity!!!!!! I am going to be interested to see if Mr. Worstall agrees with me. After all, most likely he has a similar grievance. Heavens, it’s possible that that the majority of those haunting this forum are the rightful recipients of reparations!

You’re right, JG. When we’re talking truly hard-core totalitarian, it’s hard to see how the differences between regimes could be more than lipstick. I suppose some totalitarian dictators might be less sadistic than others, just as a personality trait I mean. Of course, even if the Maximum Leader happens to be less a sadist, I daresay it’s pretty much certain that not all of his enforcers suffer from this character defect.

  26. Julie near Chicago says:

UPDATE: Well, Mr. Worstall does argue that the British should be reimbursed, on different but very fair grounds. :>) Thank you, JG, for the link.

  27. NickM says:

Well considering (a) that being from the NE of England we was Vikinged heavily and that involved slavery and (b) seeing as the most recent high profile case of slavery came from Boko Haram who are planning on sticking 200 schoolgirls on the market then Nigeria can eff off on this score. b
