There is another name for “disproportionate response”.

It is called “winning”.

But there is a lot wrong with “gradually increasing the pressure” – that was the method in Vietnam (and it failed – allowing the Communists to murder millions).

Decide what you want to do and then DO IT.

    No messing about for weeks.

That (the “gradually increasing the pressure” stuff) INCREASES civilian casualties – it dies not reduce them (as the people in charge insist on believing).

“Paul the armchair general, attacking policy again”.

    Yes I know, I know…….

What I fear is “political war” – tactics designed to “bring the other side to the table”.

There is nothing to talk about with Hamas (or the forces of Islam generally) – no agreement signed with them would be worth the paper it was written on.

Ditto the Marxists in Indochina – fighting to “bring them to the table” was wrong (flat wrong), a total misunderstanding of them (and of the nature of war itself).
