    I got 90%

I think it is right to overthrow nasty dictators. I mean Hell’s Teeth… We could have come to peace with Hitler in 1941. He was well up for it. Would have allowed him to concentrate fully on Russia without the pesky British Empire pissing on his BBQ. More up to date. Would any fucker shed tears if we took out the Mugarbage? Not in Zimbabwe anyway.

“It is illiberal, and a sign of gross arrogance, for one state to impose their will on another in this way. These issues are for the people of said state to resolve themselves with their leader(s).”

No it fucking isn’t “illiberal”. That statement is illiberal because it implicitly grants rights to states. A true liberal only believes in rights for individuals.

So LPUK, tell that to an Iranian homosexual (I hear they are very well-hung BTW) or Zimbabwean peasant on skilly and iffit (if they’re lucky), or a North Korean eating their own children.

Would it be arrogant for RoK to send the lads in? Was it arrogant for Ronnie to destroy the Evil Empire? Go to the Czech Republic and ask folks there whether they want the Russkies back? Ask an Iraqi if they want Saddam back?

I have seen the collection of “boats” that pitched up on the Dry Tortugas (If as Homer put it, Florida is “America’s wang” the DTs are the prostatic dribbles from said wang. “90 miles of open sea in that!” People will do anything to be free.

Any rational foreign policy will be actively against such horrendous violations of freedom. The idea that Germany killing it’s Jews (and all the rest) was a German issue is reprehensible. I know that was not our cause (exactly) but by the same token, by the LPUK token, Germany invading Poland should have been left as a German/Polish issue.

Being on the “side of the angels” (Lincoln) means sometimes fighting for others. 58,000 Americans (plus Brits, Aussies and Canadians – AKA “the usual suspects”) died in the mud of Korea and that means something. It means that I watch TV on a 32″ Samsung panel. I shudder to think what I’d be watching telly on if the Norks had won… Probably something that would have made Logie-Baird weep tears of blood. But that’s not the point is it? That telly (and it’s a beut) is the result of SK’s economic miracle. 60 years ago SK was a medieval disaster area. It is now a rich nation.

80 % here since I believe that we have a moral duty to help those being subjected to assaults both as individuals and collectively.

I got one less than you because I would force free markets down other nations throats too – I might not use gunboats every time but you’d have a hard time working with my cut of libertarian Britain if you were not a free market economy. The foreign state has (by definition) to be using coercion to prevent a free market within its borders and I’m not going to tolerate gangs of robber barons in my country or on my planet.

  3. Nick M says:

No. David. The use of force is not warranted there per se. It might be if they use force to keep their subjects in. If the happy socialist campers can leave then fine. If not we have Soviet redux and you know exactly what my policy is on that…

They build the MiG-25, we build the F-15.

They build the T-80, we build the Challenger.

They build Kirov-class battle cruisers, we have Nimitz-class aircraft carriers.

They build Typhoon class SSBNs, we build Vanguard and Ohio class.

    They break first.

Because if we’re right (and we are) we are by definition stronger than they are. You know ABBA almost bankrupted the Eastern bloc? Google it.

    Game. Over.

I do believe that a government should only be concerned with defence In the case of WWII I believe that the circumstances could be called self-defence. (We also had a treaty to honour – I know a Libertarian government would cancel treaties but as one existed we were duty bound to honour it) One could also justify self-defence in the case of Iraq if the weapons of mass destruction dossier been accurate.

For me it is rather more difficult in cases like Zimbabwe where people who are unable to help themselves are oppressed, starved, murdered, stolen from etc.

In defence of the UKLP stand on this I would say that the fact that the government will not get involved in foreign conflicts (other than in defending itself) does not put any such restriction upon free men and women who are free to group together and fund, organise or even participate in foreign conflicts.

Free men and women of conscience have been doing this for a long time. My own grandfather walked half way across Canada in order to voluntarily come to Europe and fight in WWI. Many foreign nationals went and fought in Spain during the civil war because they felt it was the right thing to do.

Yes I got 90% and the same one “wrong” as you Nick.

I am not averse to kicking asses when they need to be kicked either!
