Wishful thinking

What an idiot, what does he think he is? Free or something?

I want an America with no more grand utopian schemes to save an environment that doesn’t need saving, to prevent global warming that isn’t happening, or to force people to participate in a collectivized medical system that is a hollow farce and a justification for snoopery, robbery, and tyranny.

I want an America where the few, pitiful, starving, underpaid bureaucrats that remain—eking out their final days before their positions are abolished forever—have nothing to say about what I eat, what I drink, what I drive, what I keep in my gun cabinet, who I love, how I do it, and even what, in the immortal words of the great George Carlin, I shoot, snort, smoke, or rub into my belly.

The majority of peole in the UK love our collectivised medical system. It is a national treasure.
How can so many people with such a long experience of the NHS be so wrong?

They have no point of comparison?

    Alternatively:

    It is a national institution.

They have to love it it’s their patriotic duty?

Anyway the Brits I know don’t love it so much, at least not enough to trust it with their lives.

What we be a good country to draw a comparison with Andy?

I think you are way of the mark with the patriotic duty idea, do you know many Brits?

The Brits you do know must have money, poor people love the NHS.

The British generally like the theory of the NHS, they’re not so happy with the actuality. It’s enormously expensive, notoriously inefficient, makes regular fatal bog-ups, and is an absolute pain to get any sort of service out of. You’ll be put on a waiting list, given the bureaucratic run-around, and have to fight for everything. At times they are capable of truly excellent service, and the staff are generally dedicated and hard-working, but most of the time they’re horribly mediocre. They are to medicine what the typical staff canteen is to Cordon Bleu cookery.

Go have a look at Dr Crippen’s place http://nhsblogdoc.blogspot.com/ for the inside story – he has an entire category on wasting taxpayers money. And he actually likes the NHS.

I’m not sure, my point is most people don’t have personal experience of any other countries medical system.

That was just my term for it, I doubt anyone would use it in their own head.

The Brits you do know must have money, poor people love the NHS.

Because they think their alternative is nothing at all?

Waiting lists on the NHS are now very short. My own experience of the NHS is very good. I went to my GP with hearing problems, the problem wasnt serious or urgent. Within a week I had seen a consultant and had an MRI scan. My two children were born by C-section in NHS hospitals, no complaints, my son required minor surgery after sticking a bead up his nose, it happened quickly and efficiently.

Where do you get yu information from Pa? I have never been given a bureaucratic run arund..

Of course there are great inefficiencies and cock ups, mistakes, things to improve on. But how cost effective is the alternative?
Those that want a higher standard of health care can choose private health care.

I found this from April 2009:

‘The phone poll by Ipsos MORI for NHS London, of around 3,000 residents, showed 79 per cent strongly agreed or tended to agree the NHS provided them with a good service.’

You say the NHS is expensive, compared to what? The cost of the NHS per capita is £1800 per year. I think we get a lot for that money.
