Greater love hath no man than this: that a man lay down his life for people he will never meet, never know, never hear or see or touch.
We pause to remember with pride all those who have fallen fighting in freedom’s cause. The freedom of their families and neighbours. The freedom of their nations and the nations of others. Of future peoples. Our freedom.
We acknowledge and salute their glory in having fought to defend liberty, or to win it. We shed tears at the price they paid. And that others still pay.
And we promise to try to live up to those high standards. Always to value what we have: what they won for us at the cost of their own lives. Always to strive to pass on this shining gift. Never to shrink back while oppression yet lives. Never to surrender. Never to forget. Never stop fighting.

With the going down of the sun
And in the morning
We shall remember them.
