Soldiers of the IDF

Figure it’s about time we had another pic of the IDF, that bastion of civilisation.

Girls, guns, what’s not to like?

While we’re on the subject of Israel perhaps you like to see how recent Islamofascist convert, Lauren Booth, gets owned by a Canadian Jew at the Cambridge Union.

  2. Chris says:

    The draft.

The IDF is a conscript army; not volunteers.

Then again, two years at the sharp end teaches you what’s really important/necessary in life. I noticed that with a couple of the Israeli undergrads I was at uni’ with: they were just so much more practical, sensible and self-reliant than you’re average Brit of the same age and socio-economic outlook. But I suppose that driving a 60 ton tank at the age of 19 teaches you about responsibility and thinking through one’s actions…

  3. RAB says:

Great link Lynne. Gabriel will go far.

And talking of Israel being the only state that will take action when threatened, rather than sit in UN conferences, and wait for fuckwit resolutions…

Iran is having a bit of a Miss Marple episode at the moment. Someone is assassinating their senior Nuclear Scientists, one by one.

Four dead or there abouts so far, all deliberate hits, no falling pianos or car accidents like, but the iranians cant figure out just who’s doing it and why? Well they are a bit spoit for choice in the enemies stakes arn’t they?

  4. Nelsontouch says:

Is the girl on duty or is it posed?
No chinstrap, hair not tied up safely.

    Who cares, actually?

The IDF always seemed to economise on cloth by having the girl soldiers wear short skirts and tight trousers. That was my impression anyway, when I was there.

  5. Nelsontouch says:

And Chris – if you haven’talready, read “Start-up Nation” about the Israeli high-tech industrial boom.
Majors on IDF contribution to making kids efficient, disciplined and entrepreneurial. Officers always have to have a Plan B, for example.

  6. HSLD says:

Whats not to like is the fact that there is only one picture :)

Hey, when I set up this category it was pics of Israeli soldiers. It was Nick that started posting text items under it. Blame him, not me.

Click on the ones with Soldiers of the IDF as a title.

    Chris,
I think it’s not so much the details of the military service as the fact they have more life experience in general. The same applies to most mature (or slightly more mature) students. Or to put it simply as a 22 year old MSc student I could spot the difference between first years and third years a mile off. It’s just growing-up. I suspect what happens between about 18 and 21 has little to do with specifically what you did in those years. It just inevitably happens because that is essentially the time during which people adjust to being adults.

    Cats,
I don’t think I did anything like that! I could be wrong.

    nelsontouch,
If that ain’t stagd you can have my Sony Alpha.

  11. Roue le Jour says:

    Chris,

You think British students are a bit immature, you should take a look at the Americans. I used to provide accommodation for US students studying in the UK and leaving them alone to make their own breakfast was a nail biting experience.
