It’s up

Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX) announces that Flight 4 of the Falcon 1 launch vehicle has successfully launched and achieved Earth orbit. With this key milestone, Falcon 1 becomes the first privately developed liquid fuel rocket to orbit the Earth.

That’s it, a private launch vehicle has ejected a satellite into orbit – from here on in, the story of space will be the story of private initiative and personal endeavour. Human history began yesterday.

That may be a bit of a claim too far, but a new player has joined the game. Whereas, until yesterday, this was the exclusive province of government, today the rest of us get to join in.

With thanks – via Samizdata

And, in other news, more heroes here.

    We will reach the stars!

These Chinese blokes worry me though.

What are the Sedan Chairs all about?

Hell, the’ve only been in space about 36 hours!
    and they cant stand up?

The Space Station bunch have been up for months (often without oxygen) and tap dance down the stairs of the recovery vehicle.

But these wassocks get the full throne treatment!

How cramped is the Chinese Capsule?
